Students turn recycled materials into art?

Last month, Keep Fort Worth Beautiful (KFWB) hosted the Recycled Art Showcase in partnership with Artes de la Rosa?s Artes Academy. On display were student-made pieces created from recycled materials, and lots of passion. Shout out to all the young artists who participated!

Artes de la Rosa is a K-12 after-school arts education program dedicated to promoting the art, culture, lives, and history of the Latino community. These students work hard to incorporate reclaimed materials into all of their productions to do more with less.

Sign up passionate students that you know to participate in the School Green Teams program. It encourages students to get involved with their community in an environmental way.?Students can choose a variety of projects, from researching water quality or litter control methods to hands-on activities such as composting, nature walks, litter cleanups and so much more.

Fighting food waste is as easy as 1-2-3!

Last year, the City's?Residential Food Waste Composting Program?kept over 100,000 pounds of food waste from going to the landfill. Help KFWB reach its goal of signing up 2,300 new program subscribers?in 2023!?To support this goal, composting sites are now more convenient and accessible than ever.?

Fighting food waste is easy: Register! For a one-time, subscription fee of only $20, residents will receive a starter kit that includes a kitchen pail, transport bucket, and educational materials. Pick up your Starter Kit! After subscribing, our staff will send directions on where you can pick up your starter kit. There are six convenient distribution sites across the city. Start composting! Set your food waste in your new pail and take it to one of the 17 collection sites across the city ? there is even one located at City Hall!

Volunteers and City staff clean up Rosemont

This past Saturday, volunteers and staff met at the Victory Forest Community Center to clean up litter in the Rosemont area along Hemphill and adjacent side streets. Throughout the cleanup, local residents and business owners took notice of cleanup efforts and asked how to be involved in future cleanup events. Staff happily explained how to participate in cleanups as well as other City of Fort Worth programs. They even showed residents how to report issues?using the MyFW app.

A total of 18?volunteers and City employees spent the morning?cleaning and collected 42 bags of trash, 3 tires and 3,180 pounds of loose debris, for a total of 4,020 pounds of litter?removed.

Adopt-A-Spot Spotlight Litter is unsightly, and it negatively impacts businesses, tourism, and community pride. We are proud of our Adopt-A-Spot volunteers for their consistent efforts in the fight against litter. Since the beginning of this fiscal year, 18 new adoptions were made and volunteers have reported a total of 4,643 pounds of litter removed. A special thanks to all our Adopt-a-Spot volunteers for cleaning up parks, medians, and neighborhood streets citywide.?Working together makes a significant difference in efforts to keep our city beautiful and safe. Not a member of the program yet??Your business or community group can also get involved. Fight plastic pollution! World Environment Day is June 5?and the City's Water Conservation team is gearing up for their annual event. The goal is to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote positive action to protect the planet and support local ecosystems. The theme for this year's event is "Plastic Pollution". Keeping our reservoirs and waterways clear of plastic pollution and other waste is a crucial aspect of our local environmental sustainability. By choosing to drink tap water or using a reusable water bottle, we can reduce the amount of waste from single-use plastics and help protect our local water systems. So, this World Environment Day, let us all raise a glass of tap water and toast to the simple yet powerful act of water conservation. May 29 is National Compost Day. To celebrate, join?the Residential Food Waste Composting Program today!

To date,?the program has diverted over 468,000 pounds of food waste away from the landfill, to be converted into compost - a rich soil nutrient. Sign up today and do our part to keep those fruit and vegetable peels, egg shells, spoiled or leftover foods away from the garbage.
