Dear John,
It was a busy week, but I’m back to keep you in the loop on how I am fighting
for our conservative values.
This week, I joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in introducing the
Safeguarding American Value-Added Exports (SAVE) Act to promote the protection
of common names in the 2023 Farm Bill. Due in part to the European Union's
misuse and abuse of its geographical indications, U.S. exporters are prohibited
from using certain names like parmesan or bologna, giving Europeans a leg up on
American producers. Our bill will direct USDA Foreign Agricultural Services
(FAS) to protect common names from unfair trade practices, securing an overseas
market for American food.
The House passed three resolutions in honor of National Police Week. These
bills address key issues concerning federal law enforcement officers and the
defunding of local law enforcement. Of course, the majority of Democrats voted
against these bills. I called out my colleagues on the left, who falsely
claimed these bills undermine law enforcement, by highlighting their support
for defunding the police. In truth, these bills support our heroes in uniform.
They aim to deport illegal aliens who assault police, allow law enforcement
officers to purchase their retired service weapons, and express gratitude for
local law enforcement while condemning defunding efforts.
And finally, I couldn’t ask for a better Mother’s Day present than the birth
of a grandchild! Wilder joined our family last weekend, and I was blessed to be
able to meet him before going to D.C. this week.
