Hey John —

With Tucker Carlson’s firing and the Fox News/Dominion verdict taking up
tons of mainstream media airtime, our team has been talking a lot about
the “bullsh*t asymmetry principle.”

[ [link removed] ]Before we dive into the bullsh*t, can you make a quick $5
contribution? A $5 donation can pack a powerful punch toward
reaching today’s $5,500 fundraising goal and stopping the spread of bad
information.

Brandolini's law, also known as the bullsh*t asymmetry principle, refers
to the huge amount of effort needed to debunk misinformation, in
comparison to how easy it is to spread it in the first place.

Consider this: it takes seconds to tweet, minutes to record and upload a
video, and mere hours for something to go viral — especially if you’re
spreading clickbait designed to enrage and manipulate people.

But it takes days, months, or even years of effort — and tons of money and
resources — to debunk this misinformation. Just think about how many
people still believe Trump won the 2020 election.

Our newsrooms are at the forefront of this fight, correcting
misinformation around elections and our democracy in the same online
spaces where it spreads. At times it can be an uphill battle, but your
support makes their work possible,
John.

eight local newsrooms fight back against bad information?

Our commitment to meeting misinformation where it’s at and countering it
with reliable, accurate stories will continue to be a critical initiative
in support of our democracy — especially as the 2024 election season heats
up.

Thank you for your support,

The Courier Newsroom Team
