Wes Moore signed SEVEN gun safety bills into law that will expand safe gun storage requirements, improve gun tracing, restrict where firearms can be openly carried in public, and more! These bills will prevent gun homicide, suicide, and school shootings, protect Maryland communities, and help save countless lives — and they couldn’t be more important right now.
Gun violence has impacted our communities at an astounding rate this year — there have been more mass shootings than days in 2023.

Seeing this unprecedented challenge, Brady Maryland and concerned residents across the state took action, working with partners to engage grassroots advocates, drive calls to elected officials, and provide testimony to uplift the stories of gun violence survivors.

Illinois Assault Weapon Bans Withstands Gun Industry Challenge in U.S. Supreme Court

GOOD NEWS: This week, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a gun industry request to halt a ban on assault weapons in Illinois and a ban on the commercial sale of assault weapons in the city of Naperville, IL. These laws, which are supported by the majority of Illinois residents, were passed in the aftermath of the deadly July 4 shooting in Highland Park, IL, when a gunman used an assault weapon to kill seven and injure nearly 50 others, including children.

While the gun industry’s deadly agenda continues to put profits over people, states and cities should have the right to protect their residents from the devastation of these weapons of war. Brady’s legal team represents the city of Naperville, and we are behind the entire state of Illinois in their efforts to protect public safety and save lives from these deadly weapons.

But we know this fight is not over. With the gun industry being denied a request for an emergency injunction from the Supreme Court, the gun industry’s case will now head back to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Parents ask all types of questions before their children visit other homes.
