Legislative Update

Police Week

This week is National Police Week, where we commemorate all of the officers we've lost in the line of duty, and we thank all those who've done the job and those still protecting our communities.

This week we've passed quite a number of bills through the House. On Monday, on a party line vote, Democrats passed the Public Safety and Judiciary bill, which includes expanded background checks and the red flag law, both of which will infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of Minnesotans, and will not address the root causes of the massive increase in violent crime.

The Education bill also passed, which unfortunately eliminates one of the widely used teacher pathways to a higher licensure, and will make it harder for good teachers to move from a Tier 1 to a Tier 2 teaching license.

The Labor/Workforce/Economic Development bill piles on even more unfunded mandates, paid time off requirements, and high fines that will drive job creators out of business. It also gives away millions to unaccountable nonprofits in the metro area, without details on how the funds are to be used.

Coming up, we've heard that there will be billions more in increased taxes and fees in the Transportation and Tax bills, including a higher gas tax that automatically increases with inflation, higher tab fees, a delivery fee, and more.

I continue to fight for the family budgets of District 1B.
