‌ ‌ WEEKLY UPDATE May 19th, 2023 Dear Kansas friends, Thank you for your interest in receiving my newsletter. Please feel free to share this with your friends and family. I am Proud to Defend Our Law Enforcement I will always stand up and fight for our law enforcement officers. This week House Republicans passed multiple bills to: Support increased resources for police officers Push back on the dangerous anti-Police rhetoric that's fueled rising crime Watch HERE: This week had the honor of presiding over the House Floor as we debated legislation to support our law enforcement officers and condemn the dangerous Defund the Police movement. It's vital that we stand up for the men and women in blue who work tirelessly to keep us safe. Progressive, soft-on-crime policies have fueled rising crime in cities across America. THANK YOU to our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect us and our communities despite increasingly dangerous conditions and surging crime rates. Watch HERE: Securing the Southern Border Fentanyl is pouring across the southern border and wreaking havoc in communities across Kansas. I talked to local news outlets about how the Secure the Border Act will combat illegal immigration, secure the border, and fight the fentanyl epidemic. Over 1.3 million illegal immigrants have avoided Border Patrol and entered America UNDETECTED since President Biden took office. That's enough people to fill Arrowhead Stadium 17 times. I voted for the Secure the Border Act—a bill to combat illegal immigration and fight the fentanyl epidemic. The Red Cross was recently caught providing migrants with resources on how to cross the southern border illegally. I'm leading an effort to ensure NGOs are not using American tax dollars to incentivize illegal immigration. Read more HERE Under President Biden's border crisis, illegal immigrants are being prioritized over our nation's veterans. It's unacceptable and un-American. Protecting Telehealth Access Telehealth has significantly expanded health care access for rural Kansans. I'm proud to help introduce the bipartisan Protecting Rural Telehealth Access Act to ensure folks across our state can continue receiving essential health care services without the burden of long-distance travel. Read more HERE: Call to Action for Debt Limit President Biden spent months refusing to work with Republicans to find common ground on the debt limit. Now we are days away from a Biden default and House Republicans are the only people in town who have taken action to raise the debt limit & end wasteful federal spending. I joined Speaker McCarthy on the Capitol steps to urge President Biden to stop putting the American economy in jeopardy. Americans Support Work Requirements Two-thirds of Americans support work requirements. Senator Biden even voted for work requirements and President Clinton signed them into law. House Republicans’ commonsense work requirements proposal will help able-bodied adults re-enter the workforce and end their reliance on government assistance. Protecting Taxpayers from COVID Fraud Over $400,000,000,000 was stolen from taxpayers in pandemic unemployment fraud. I voted to pass the Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act—a bill to incentivize states to recover fraudulent payments and protect against this criminal activity. Meeting with District Leadership Great sitting down with Washburn University President JuliAnn Mazachek in Washington. Thanks for stopping by! Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. It was great meeting with the Junction City Chamber to discuss the challenges facing business owners across our state and how we can help Kansas veterans transition into the workforce after their service. Happy Mother's Day Happy Mother’s Day to my wife Suzanne, and all the other amazing Moms across Kansas! Thank you for everything you do.
