Watch Soren’s story in the latest installment of the Identity Crisis documentary series
Friend,
Don’t miss the latest documentary released today as part of IWF’s “Identity Crisis” series: Soren Aldaco.
Like many young girls caught up in a gender identity crisis, Soren suffered from a slew of mental health issues. But instead of treating her multiple diagnoses, medical professionals decided to affirm her transgender identity and put her on the irreversible path of medicalization. At age 11, Soren began identifying as a boy. At age 17, she began hormone replacement therapy. At age 19, she underwent a botched double mastectomy.

“Giving me access to certain drugs, giving me referrals to whomever I ask for didn’t help me heal, it affirmed me in my delusion.”

Soren’s mother resisted the doctor’s advice to affirm her daughter’s identity as a boy. But like many parents, she and the rest of Soren’s family were manipulated into going along with it.
“We hear a lot, ‘Would you rather have a dead daughter or living son?’ And that was the sort of mindset that they were exposed to and they acted from,” Soren told Independent Women’s Forum.
Soren’s tragic account of a botched double mastectomy and long-term side effects from cross-sex hormones is the latest feature in Independent Women’s Forum’s “Identity Crisis ([link removed]) ” series. In it, Soren recounts medical neglect and the “unbearable” pain she experienced immediately following her surgery. Eventually, the pain, side effects, and lies that came along with living as a “boy” became too much to bear, and Soren detransitioned.

“Nobody will understand the complications that come with these procedures and these treatments until they experience them. I know I didn't, and reality caught up with me.”

Now 21 years old, Soren feels cheated by a medical system that she believes “prioritizes ease and conformity over health.” After beginning her medical detransition, Soren’s discovered mindfulness-based therapy as a way to heal her mental distress and give herself the compassion she so craved growing up, which she thought she was getting from being affirmed in her gender identity.
“Children deserve better than plastic surgery and hormones. The gender-affirming care I experienced in adolescence was an elaborate placebo,” she said.
Watch Soren’s story and please help us SHARE IT ([link removed]) so the public sees the truth about what so-called “gender affirming care” really entails, and help us protect emotionally vulnerable minors from going down this devastating path.
Thank you,
Kelsey
