Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes YES and Passes Legislation in Honor of National Police Week Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes YES and Passes Legislation in Honor of National Police Week In 2022, 556 police officers lost their lives in the line of duty. This week, Congresswomen Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib voted against a simple resolution to honor law enforcement officers and express support for the officers killed in the line of duty last year. It’s simple: they want to defund, dismantle, and disparage police officers. To honor those who lost their lives and our men and women in blue, I was proud to vote YES and pass important pro-police legislation that ensures the safety of and recognizes our nation's law enforcement officers. As someone who served in law enforcement for nearly 30 years, I know all too well the sacrifices men and women in blue make every day. Every morning, our nation’s law enforcement put on their bullet-proof vests and leave the safety of their homes to serve their communities. This Congress will not stand by and let the assault on our nation’s law enforcement continue and leave our police officers unsupported. It is long past time to put these brave individuals first. My House Republican colleagues and I will always back the blue. Reps. Troy E. Nehls and Jimmy Panetta Introduce the National Law Enforcement Remembrance, Support, and Community Outreach Act Congressmen introduce bipartisan bill to create DOJ... EXCLUSIVE - A bipartisan duo in the House introduced legislation Tuesday to create a "formal program" in the Justice Department to support law enforcement in a nod to National Police Week. Reps. Read more www.washingtonexaminer.com This week, I introduced the National Law Enforcement Remembrance, Support, and Community Outreach Act, with my colleague Congressman Jimmy Panetta and 27 other Members of Congress. This bipartisan legislation would establish a formal program within the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to support and enhance the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). Assaults on our law enforcement officers are at an all-time high. Now, more than ever, we must pay tribute to and honor our courageous law enforcement officials who protect and serve communities across the nation every day. Read more about my legislation HERE. Rep. John Rutherford to Speak at the Protect and Serve Act Press Conference I was proud to join former Sheriff, now Congressman John Rutherford, at a Police Week press conference with a bipartisan group of colleagues to discuss the Protect and Serve Act. This legislation would create federal penalties for individuals who deliberately target law enforcement officers in the line of duty. If you target a police officer, this Congress will target you. Since the 1930’s, Congress has enacted 18 farm bills, which have traditionally focused on commodity support, crop insurance, conservation, nutrition assistance, and an array of other programs that address rural development, broadband deployment, and trade. The Farm Bill goes through an extensive process where it is proposed, debated, passed by Congress, and signed into law by the President. The current Farm Bill, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2023, is set to expire on September 30, 2023. The House Committee on Agriculture recently launched a survey that is now open to the public to include input on how various programs are working for producers, stakeholders, and consumers around the country. Constituent input is vital and I encourage you to click here to provide your input for the 2023 Farm Bill: 2023 Farm Bill Feedback | House Agriculture Committee. The survey closes June 9, 2023. Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 6, 2023, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note, the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please email
