Dear Friend,
This week, as we recognize National Police Week, the House of Representatives passed numerous bills to support our law enforcement officers. Read on to learn more…
Our law enforcement officers face danger every shift. This year alone, 30 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty, including Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Owen of Pope County, Minnesota. We must never forget the heroism and sacrifices of our law enforcement.
This week, we passed a resolution memorializing the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. We were proud to cosponsor this important legislation honoring those who paid the ultimate price in defense of our communities.
Misguided “defund the police” policies have empowered criminals in communities across America and led to a massive shortage of law enforcement officers across the country. As Democrats continue to double down on this incoherent policy, we are standing up for law enforcement. This week, we passed a resolution condemning the “defund the police” movement and reaffirming our ongoing support for our local law enforcement heroes.
Finally, we passed legislation that provides additional protections for law enforcement officers working at our borders, on the front lines of the Biden border crisis. The POLICE Act would make assaulting a law enforcement officer as a deportable offense. According to recent statistics, more than 43,000 law enforcement officers were assaulted while performing their official duties in 2021, a more than 11% increase over 2020. This will provide significant protections for our law enforcement officers at the border.

Our law enforcement officers balance enormous responsibility and pressure every time they put on their uniforms. They perform a difficult, dangerous, and often thankless job with courage and dignity. We will continue to stand with the brave men and women of law enforcement who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. To all the men and women of law enforcement, and their families, we cannot thank you enough for all you do to keep our communities safe.
