Friday File

Tracey Mann

United States Congressman, KS-1

“The Big 1st”

Every time a Biden Administration official appears before one of my House committees, it’s the same thing over and over again: I hear someone pushing big government socialism, leftist ideology, wasting taxpayer dollars, and backwards policies that will hurt Kansans. It’s a total failure of leadership.

Two weeks ago, we learned shocking details of dark business dealings by the President and members of his family. I suspect we are just starting to learn the details, and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. House Republicans can, and will, hold them accountable.

Meanwhile, in Kansas, the values that make America great are still alive and well - values like faith, family, freedom, and personal responsibility. Earlier this month, I spent time with over 100 Kansas Ag producers at a wheat farm near Gypsum. Farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers in the Big First are American heroes. They don’t take any days off and they don’t complain, they just get the job done.

On Capitol Hill, however, we are dealing with one problem after another caused by President Biden.

Last week, my House Republican colleagues and I passed a bill to force President Biden to secure the border, finish the wall, add border patrol agents, end catch-and-release, and reform the asylum process. His open-door policies have created a total humanitarian crisis and flooded American streets with fentanyl.

I’ve been to the southern border, where I saw human heartbreak, scared children, overcrowded facilities, overwhelmed CBP agents, and evidence of crimes committed by Mexican cartels in trafficking people and drugs into the United States. Congress must act now, and this commonsense legislation will bring about meaningful change to a situation that has gotten completely out of control.

While the left is always looking for their next opportunity to take away our freedoms and grow the government, I believe that our brightest days are ahead of us because of freedom loving Americans like you, who will never give in and never give up.

America, and a brighter future for our children and grandchildren, are worth the fight.

Yours in liberty,

Tracey Mann

Facts and Figures

A Surge At The Border

Biden's border crisis continues to rage, and with the ending of Title 42, things are only going to get worse at the border.

What you need to know:

New Customs and Border Protection data released this week shows 211,401 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in April.

This is the second highest total for April in 22 years.

This is the first time in history that monthly apprehensions at the southern border have surpassed 150,000 for 26 consecutive months.

With roughly 7,000 daily encounters, this dwarfs the definition of a "crisis" set by Obama's DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson when he said in 2019 that "more than 1,000" apprehensions a day "overwhelms the system."

April's 211,000-plus encounters is a 337% increase from the average number of April apprehensions from 2017-2020.

11,478 unaccompanied children were apprehended.

113,319 illegal immigrants were apprehended from countries outside the Northern Triangle and Mexico, showing that Biden’s crisis is global.

At least 96 people on the terror watchlist have been apprehended trying to enter the U.S. between ports of entry so far this fiscal year.

More than 6.6 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.

This includes the 1.4 million gotaways have escaped past Border Patrol into the U.S.

Border officials say that the official number of gotaways vastly undercounts the illegal immigrants who make it into the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations estimates that Mexican cartels are now making $13 billion a year smuggling illegal immigrants into the U.S.

Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate with only 5 to 10% being intercepted as border officials struggle to contain the smuggling.

3,236 pounds of deadly fentanyl was seized at the southern border in April alone, with much more getting through.

The amount of fentanyl seized in April is the equivalent of more than 734 million lethal doses.

With Title 42 ending, the Biden administration has been wholly unprepared for a surge in illegal immigration.

Even before the end of Title 42, Border Patrol officials reported that their facilities were already “at capacity .”

Biden’s only solution, which has since been blocked by a federal judge, has been to mass release illegal immigrants into border communities.

Republican leaders in Congress and in Republican-led states will continue to hold Biden and the Democrats accountable for the humanitarian crisis they created.

The bottom line:

By removing Title 42, Joe Biden is worsening the crisis his open border agenda created. Biden is empowering drug smugglers and human traffickers, making American communities less safe, and creating the worst border crisis in DHS history, yet he doesn’t care.

Debt Ceiling

Biden and Democrats refused to negotiate with House Republicans on the debt limit until they passed a plan to address it. So Republicans passed one.

What you need to know:

It took Biden 104 days to meet with Speaker Kevin McCarthy about the debt limit.

Why did it take Biden that long to simply meet with the Speaker and agree to a negotiations structure?

While Biden was playing politics, House Republicans stepped up and passed a bill to responsibly raise the debt limit.

It is full of commonsense proposals to save taxpayers’ money that even Democrats, including Biden himself, have supported and applauded.

Democrats' failed tax and spend policies caused this debt crisis.

Since President Biden took office in January 2021, he and House Democrats have increased the 10-year spending trajectory by $10 trillion.

This includes ramming through their $2 trillion so-called "American Rescue Plan" that ignited the highest spike in consumer prices in forty

years.

After passing the "American Rescue Plan," Democrats moved on, passing the so-called "Inflation Reduction Act," which included:

$80 billion to the IRS in order to target working families with audits.

$400+ billion for Green New Deal initiatives.

Biden’s Executive Actions have totaled OVER $1.5 trillion in spending,

including Democrats’ student loan giveaway to the wealthy.

House Republicans committed to a responsible debt ceiling increase. The Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023:

Limits federal spending by:

Ending the era of reckless Washington spending.

Saves taxpayer dollars by:

Reclaiming unspent COVID funds;

Defunding Biden's IRS army;

Repealing "Green New Deal" tax credits;

Prohibiting Biden's student loan giveaway to the wealthy.

Grows the economy by:

Strengthening the workforce and reducing childhood poverty;

Preventing Executive overreach and restoring Article I;

Lowers energy costs and utilities.

The bottom line:

Joe Biden is leaving American workers and families behind, as higher prices on everything from gas to groceries are here to stay under his reckless agenda. Republican-led states are driving the economic comeback with more jobs created and lower unemployment despite the failures of Biden and the Democrats. Republican leadership delivers, unleashes prosperity, and lifts up all Americans.

Durham Report Release

After nearly four years of investigation, Durham found that the FBI lacked the actual evidence to investigate then-candidate Donald Trump's campaign.

What you need to know:

The more than 300-page Durham report found that “neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion” to begin investigating Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.

The FBI and DOJ “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law.”

The report found that “there was significant reliance on investigative leads provided or funded (directly or indirectly) by Trump's political opponents.”

Individuals at the highest levels of the federal government allowed the Crossfire Hurricane investigation to continue despite any firm evidence of collusion.

Simply put - this was the weaponization of the federal government against a political opponent.

Democrats and the mainstream media have pushed the Russian collusion hoax for more than 6 years.

In 2019, Joe Biden said, “I absolutely agree” when a woman, repeating the Russia collusion hoax, claimed President Trump was an “illegitimate president.”

As recently as January 2023, Adam Schiff was still pushing the Russian collusion hoax.

Hillary Clinton repeatedly cited the Russian collusion hoax to insist the 2016 election was “stolen” from her.

Even the mainstream media has admitted the Durham report is “devastating to the FBI.”

The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee has already reached out to the Justice Department to have Special Counsel John Durham testify next week.

The bottom line:

For our country’s sake there must be honesty, integrity, and accountability.

Conservatively Speaking

By Mike Brown, Chairman

Kansas Republican Party

Dateline: May 19, 2023

Subject: 2023 Kansas Republican Primary Filing, Local Elections

(NOTE: Because of its importance, a separate email from me regarding the KSGOP Rules Committee went out this morning. I encourage you to read it and ask questions.)

As we approach the Kansas filing deadline of June 1, 2023 for local elections, I encourage you to visit with your friends, neighbors, and family about running for the school board or city council in your community.

Republican ideals are tried, authentic, and tested as common sense. Our values have been tempered in political fires like steel and sharpened against the grindstone of American History.

We are not perfect, but we learn and adjust, trying to be better in the future.

Our party stands for freedom, liberty, and equality. The Republican Party led by President Lincoln ended slavery in America and that same party carried the banner of the 19th Amendment to give women the right to vote. We also welcome legal immigrants to America, and we fight for more freedoms and less government interference at every level of government. We stand for the 2nd Amendment, knowing it is what supports and protects the 1st Amendment. Republicans also stand for the essential principles of lower taxes, less regulation, and personal responsibility.

The Republican Party is the party of equality, not equity. We believe everyone is created equally and your successes come from education and hard work.

When we say the Pledge of Allegiance, we mean every word.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America , and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The three simple principles, though, that bind us without fail are Smaller Government, Less Taxes and More Freedom. We are the party of individualism, capitalism and free will.

In contrast, the Democrat philosophy is, “let the government do it for me.” But a government big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take away everything you have.

Our Republican philosophy of “Government leave me alone. I will do it for myself” is undeniably the more arduous path. It requires critical thinking, a plan of action built on self-reliance, and then the hard work of making it happen.

We all know we need less government in our collective lives as Americans and Kansans, and this endeavor begins with those on our local boards and councils.

Government closest to the people is the very best government. I know that statement is true because I served as a County Commissioner. It was in this “close to the people” elected position where I interfaced with constituents daily in emails, at the hardware store, in the grocery store and around my district.

This gave me the perspective to then ask questions of our government in meetings and to vote they way that got the most people what they needed and wanted. That's accountability and that is good government. I want you to feel what I felt; the joy and pride of shaping your community and leading others.

You can do it and we are with you!
