Dear John,
This week, I was honored to join my fellow Appropriations Subcommittee members in congratulating the crew of NASA's historic Artemis II mission, including Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Hammock Koch and Jeremy Hansen.
In November, these brave astronauts will venture around the Moon on Artemis II, the first crewed mission to the moon since 1972!
The approximately 10-day Artemis II flight will test the Orion spacecraft’s life-support systems while validating the capabilities and techniques needed for humans to live and work in deep space.
As the Ranking Member of the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, which funds NASA, I am excited to play a part in this incredible journey.
The flight, set to build upon the successful Artemis I mission completed in December, will also set the stage for the first woman and first person of color to step foot on the lunar surface.
This mission is essential for NASA’s path to establish a long-term presence at the Moon for science and exploration and paves the way for the future missions to the Moon, and eventually Mars.
