My work in TX-31 and Congress Howdy Texan – I wanted to take a brief moment to give you an update on what's happening in Texas' 31st district and the United States House. ON THE DOCKET: Promises Made, Promises Kept Congressional Art Competition Winner Welcoming Fortis Academy to Washington Standing with Local Law Enforcement THE BRIEF: Biden’s Department of Justice released a report in December showing that even as crime skyrocketed in 2021, federal arrests actually decreased by 35% compared to 2020. President Biden left for Japan, even as the debt ceiling looms. A recent Axios poll shows that nearly two-thirds of Americans support work requirements for federal aid. PROMISES MADE, PROMISES KEPT This week, I brought the fiscal year 2024 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill to the subcommittee for consideration. As chairman, I made it very clear that we would fulfill our promise to America's veterans. This bill fully funds veterans' health care. It fully funds veterans' benefits and VA programs. In addition, the bill provides for our national defense by putting extra focus on resources in the Pacific to combat Chinese aggression. This bill responsibly maintains our commitment to America's heroes, and as the bill continues through the legislative process, I look forward to working with my colleagues to uphold that standard. 2023 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION WINNER I'm proud to announce Bella Davis from Georgetown High School as the 2023 TX-31 Congressional Art Competition Winner! Bella's piece entitled "Flores Liberadoras" will represent our congressional district in the United States Capitol building for millions of visitors to see. Congratulations, Bella! WELCOMING FORTIS ACADEMY One of the best parts of my job is visiting with young people from my district. This week, I welcomed Fortis Academy from Liberty Hill to Washington, DC. It's always interesting for me to hear what's on students' minds, and I shared a little bit of insight on my work in Congress. If you're visiting Washington over the summer, be sure to reach out to my office for tours or just stop by to say hello! This week was National Police Week. The House considered three bills to support local law enforcement, and I was proud to vote yes on all of them. The left's defund the police movement has made a difficult job that much harder. I believe that local law enforcement deserve our support, and I will always back the blue. Thank you to the police officers that keep the Texas' 31st district safe! As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates. It is an honor and privilege to represent you and Texas in the United States House. Sincerely, John R. Carter Visit our website! WC Willamson County 4411 S I 35 Frontage Rd.
