The New Pennsylvania Project Congratulates Heather Boyd on her victory in Tuesday's special election |
The New Pennsylvania Project is pleased to join Delaware County and the voters of Pennsylvania State House District 163 in celebration of Heather Boyd’s projected victory in Tuesday’s special election.
“The voters of Delaware County have spoken and we are incredibly pleased with the outcome,” said Kadida Kenner, CEO of the New Pennsylvania Project. “The stakes of this special election were incredibly high, which is why our organization committed our time and resources to get out the vote. We look forward to Rep. Boyd joining the Democratic Caucus in Harrisburg, and Speaker Joanna McClinton maintaining control of the Speaker’s gavel." New Pennsylvania Project's work on the ground focused heavily in Delaware County, working to get out the vote for Tuesday's special election. In total, we: - Knocked on 9,000 doors in HD-163
- Made more than 15,000 phone calls
- Sent roughly 16,000 text messages
We were also joined by Speaker of the Pennsylvania House Joanna McClinton at a canvass launch on Tuesday morning, who provided motivation for staff, fellows, and volunteers as they embarked on a long day of canvassing. |
NPP CEO, Kadida Kenner, welcomes our newest staffer, Eric Leisure. Eric joins NPP as the Director of Strategic Communications (and may just be the guy crafting this exact eBlast):
Eric brings a “Frankenstein’s Monster” of a resume to NPP that includes over a decade of work at some of the Keystone State’s premier family-entertainment destinations followed by stints as a journalist with Vox Media and later a brand manager for a boutique MARCOM agency. Eric transitioned out of the private sector in 2020, becoming a Community Organizer in Squirrel Hill. He followed up that election cycle by managing Alyssa Cowan’s campaign for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas before returning to statewide work in 2022.

GOP, Dems Propose New Legislation Surrounding Elections (Politics PA)
The ink is barely dry on the 2023 Pennsylvania municipal primary and new pieces of legislation are being proposed in both chambers of the General Assembly to change them for the future.
Republican state senators are calling for primary runoffs if the winner does not have a majority of the votes. Democratic House members are calling for ranked choice voting.
5 things we know, post-primary edition (City & State)
From the courts to the counties, there was plenty of action to follow on primary day in Pennsylvania. In Allegheny County, voters chose nominees for county executive, county council and district attorney in races that pitted progressives against more moderate Democrats. Meanwhile, Democrats successfully defended their state House majority in a special election for a vacant seat, and two vocal supporters of former President Donald Trump didn’t see the results they were hoping for.
Inside one northeast Pa. county that has made light work of running “two elections” since the advent of mail-in balloting (VoteBeat)
Columbia County, with fewer than 39,000 registered voters, realized it could only pull off its “two elections” more smoothly if the office got lots of extra help. Its election day operation is now based on robust cooperation from employees across the county government. |
