Hey John, it's Congressman Jamaal Bowman. I just want to make one thing clear:
In her press conference in front of countless reporters Marjorie Taylor Greene said something incredibly dangerous — calling me "aggressive" and saying she feels "threatened" by me.
Representative Greene wasn't even using a dog whistle — it was a bullhorn, putting a racist target on my back to her MAGA supporters. It echoes what happened with Emmett Till and with Mike Brown, and unfortunately this country has a history of characterizing Black men who are outspoken, who stand their ground, or who push back as being "threatening" or "intimidating."
Marjorie Taylor Greene is a white supremacist. Describing somebody's beliefs — which are clear for everybody to see — isn't "like calling a person of color the n word," no matter what false equivalencies she might draw.
This behavior is dangerous and reckless — but we can't let it stop our movement for progressive change.
Thank you for being on our side in this fight.
Peace and love,
Jamaal Bowman
