Howdy John,
Two years ago, conservatives took over the Woodland Park school board – and they wasted no time enacting extreme far-right changes to the school district.
From adopting a right-wing group’s social studies program and rejecting grants that retained most of the district’s counselors and therapists, to approving the district’s first charter school without public notice and implementing a “gag” order on educators prohibiting them discussing school matters with the public – the board’s aggressive right-wing agenda was hardly hidden.
Said one conservative board member, comparing their political strategy to that of warfare: “Divide, scatter, conquer. Trump was great at this…then the enemy cannot fortify, defend, effectively counter-attack at any one point.”
The “enemies” to them are the educators, parents and students they were elected to represent.
The board’s conservative agenda reflects a disturbing trend that has made our children’s schools the new battleground for culture wars around race, LGBTQ rights, and our shared history like slavery and the Civil Rights Movement.
Here at CDP, one of our top priorities is fighting back against this MAGA agenda that’s harming our kids and making it even harder for our teachers and administrators to do their jobs.
We’re doing this by focusing on local elections and fighting for school board candidates who will put our kids first – not extreme MAGA politics.
And here’s where we could use your help: sign up for our Local Races and Early Investments Team today to help us in local elections across the state, so that we can fight back against the conservative takeover of our local offices and school boards >> [[link removed]]
So many aspects of our daily lives are affected by decision making in City Halls, city councils and school boards, and there’s real harm in losing these seats to ultra right-wing conservative. Woodland Park is a vivid example of the consequences we face when we don’t invest our time in these races early on.
Can you sign up to join our Local Races and Early Investments Team today to help with our local races and help us break MAGA Republican majorities in local offices across our state. [[link removed]]
