96 It's National Police Week “It is not how these officers died
that made them heroes, it is how they lived.”
That quote, found on
the the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.,
is always worth revisiting during National Police Week as we honor and
remember those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect
their fellow citizens.
Earlier this week, the names of two Hoosiers
were added to that memorial: Officer Noah Shahnavaz of Elwood and
Officer Seara Burton of Richmond.
Both tragically lost their lives in
the line of duty last year.
Now, with their names carved into those
limestone walls, we promise to always remember them, to never forget
their service to our state nor the sacrifice they made.
But it's not
just this week we honor those with the courage to pin on the badge, but
every day.
To all of those who bravely serve our communities,
unafraid to run into harm's way: thank you.
We will always have your
backs, and pray for you and your families.
Enjoy this week's
newsletter.
Sincerely,
Chairman Kyle Hupfer

Governor Holcomb's Week That WasHonoring Officer
MoodyGovernor Eric Holcomb presents Officer Dustin Moddy with a Sagamore
of the Wabash.
This week, Governor Eric Holcomb honored Trafalgar
police officer Dustin Moody with the highest honor bestowed by the
governor's office, the Sagamore of the Wabash.
Officer Moody was
paralyzed in a crash last year when he attempted to pull over an alleged
impaired driver.
From the governor: "Today [Wednesday] I honored
Officer Dustin Moody with a Sagamore of the Wabash. Officer Moody was
injured in the line of duty in June of 2022. Dustin, his wife Emily, and
the family that supports them are on a long road to recovery and the
State of Indiana is behind them."
About the award: According to the
state, the Sagamore of the Wabash award was created during the term of
Governor Ralph Gates, who served from 1945 to 1949.
It is a personal
tribute usually given to those who have rendered a
distinguished
service to the state or to the governor. There is no record of the total
number which have been presented, as each governor has kept his own
roll.  More: Gov. Holcomb has signed on to a letter with 24 other
Republican governor pushing back against the U.S. Department of
Education’s proposed rule that "could prevent states from enforcing
duly-enacted statutes protecting fairness in women's and girl's sports."

ICYMI: House Republicans Pass 'Secure the Border Act'Late last
week, U.S. House Republicans passed the strongest border security bill
the country has ever seen, with zero support from the Democrats.
Context: In President Biden's first 100 days, he took more than 94
executive actions on immigration that have weakened our system and led
to more than 6.3 million illegal border crossings, including 1.3
million gotaways that have escaped past border patrol into the country.
But he hasn't done it alone, Democrats have voted to

end the chaos.
The bill would fix our broken asylum system, hire more
Border Patrol agents and provide them with resources they need,
reinstate policies like Remain in Mexico, and force the Biden
administration to resume building the border wall.   Fox News:

"CBP stats show that 16 people — more

"It means
there have so far been 98 encounters at the southern and northern
