John, if the debt ceiling sounds like some abstract concept to you, you’re not alone. Just know that it’s basically the government agreeing to pay bills just like the rest of us.

Sounds like a no-brainer, right?

The problem is House Republicans are holding the global economy hostage by saying they won’t raise the debt ceiling unless they’re allowed to make massive cuts to health care, education, and environmental protections.
