Everyone should be able to access life-saving, necessary health care without going into bankruptcy. But personal bankruptcy is a reality for hundreds of thousands of people who are pushed into debt by medical bills — including those who are already insured. With Medicare for All, no one would have to pay outrageous amounts or go into debt to receive proper care.
In communities like Western Pennsylvania, mental health care and addiction crises are criminalized through mass incarceration instead of supported in our health care system. Medicare for All would bring major federal investments in mental health care and addiction services at the scale we need to care for individuals experiencing a crisis.
