Team,

For far too long, the ultra-wealthy in America have been able to skirt around paying Social Security and Medicare taxes on most of their income. When the country’s richest individuals and corporations aren’t required to do their part and pay a fair share in taxes, it holds down the economy for everyone.

That’s why I’ve introduced legislation – the Medicare and Social Security Fair Share Act – to level the playing field and safeguard the programs that allow seniors to retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work.

My bill would level the playing field so that high earners will finally have to contribute their fair share to Social Security and Medicare. Hardworking teachers, police officers, and firefighters shouldn’t pay a much larger share of their income in taxes than billionaires. Will you add your name to stand by me and support this critical work? [link removed]

If we let the wealthiest Americans play by their own rules, it makes it harder for everyone else to make ends meet. It’s past time the ultra-wealthy contribute their fair share and help ensure the next generation of Americans can retire with dignity.

Thank you,

Sheldon Whitehouse
