Dear Friend
--
Tonight, the G7 released its much awaited statement on nuclear
disarmament and there is no other way to put it: this empty statement
is a gross failure of leadership. On the same day the
G7 leaders visited the Hiroshima Memorial Peace Museum, laid flowers
at the cenotaph and met with survivors of the atomic bombing, they put
out an empty declaration that failed to come up with any concrete
proposals that would take forward their stated goal of a world without
nuclear weapons.
The statement rehashes, and even
walks back earlier language by the G20 that condemned all nuclear
threats. Please read our full reaction here.
In light of this failure, it is
more important than ever that we raise our voice. Tomorrow, May 20th,
the participants of our recent G7 Hiroshima Youth Summit are calling
for a global day of action, will you raise your voice?
Thank you,
Susi Snyder Programme Coordinator ICAN
