Can you imagine being in the middle of the ocean and discovering you had been sold as a slave, not sure if you’d ever see your family again?
For Ron, this was a reality.
Today, there’s a relatively unknown form of human trafficking taking place in the middle of the ocean. Thousands of men are being forced to work in Thailand’s massive fishing industry.
It’s time to bring them home.
This 7-billion-dollar industry employs hundreds of thousands of fishermen — many against their will. These men are lured by the promise of a good job, then sold to boat captains who force them to take on perilous work while their families back home are left to wonder whether they’ll ever return.
Families like Ron’s.
Ron was a father, husband and family man willing to risk anything to help his family survive. But in Cambodia, dire poverty was crushing them. Ron barely made $2 a day on his farmland — and Ron was running out of options to feed his family.
So, when Keov came around his village and offered Ron a better option, he took the bait. It wasn’t until he was in the middle of the ocean when he discovered that he had been sold to a ruthless boat captain working in the massive Thai fishing industry.
As men started disappearing into the ocean’s depths, so did Ron’s hope of the sea ever returning him home alive.
