This is abhorrent.
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is knowingly invoking dangerous, racist tropes against my friend and colleague, Representative Jamaal Bowman.
This language is serious. There is a long and tragic history of Black men being characterized as “threatening” for simply being passionate and outspoken. Language like this killed Emmett Till. It killed Mike Brown.
It’s an all-too-familiar tactic of white supremacy and oppression. But it won’t stop Jamaal from speaking truth to power.
