Friend,
At yesterday’s National Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by the secretive Christian nationalist enterprise “The Family,” President Trump touted his administration’s defense of “religious freedom.” Nothing could not be farther from the truth.
From his Muslim ban to his soon-to-be-final rule allowing federal contractors to fire anyone who does not meet their religious litmus test to allowing taxpayer-funded foster care agencies to reject parents who are LGBTQ or the “wrong” religion, Trump has steadily undermined religious freedom and granted unprecedented access and influence to his voting base of far-right evangelical Christians.
The Family is but one piece of the Christian nationalist movement that is so emboldened today in our country. Another stealth operation called Project Blitz is the state legislative arm of this same movement.
Friend, stopping this pair of well-funded, coordinated efforts to make America a Christian nation is going to take the help of all our most dedicated supporters.

The Project Blitz strategy is to pass an escalating series of laws in state legislatures throughout the country in order to codify a narrow version of Christianity as American law. Since the start of 2020, 49 Project Blitz bills have already been introduced, from bills that require public schools to display In God We Trust and teach Bible classes to those allowing government-funded foster care agencies to discriminate.
Now that Americans United and our allies have brought Project Blitz into the light, its organizers have recently attempted to change their name to remain hidden. But they are still following their infamous playbook to the “t” -- building support for seemingly benign bills as they advance toward more harmful bills that turn back the clock on our country’s progress towards more meaningful equality for all. Ultimately, the most harm will come to women, LGBTQ people, religious minorities and the nonreligious.
With President Trump pandering to his evangelical Christian base now more than ever, church-state separation is in desperate need of defense.
In the face of these threats, will you help AU protect religious freedom for all with a $50 donation today? Click here: [link removed]
Thank you for your enduring support, friend.
In solidarity,
Rachel K. Laser
