Still Needed: Afghan Adjustment Act 

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Earlier this month the Department of Homeland Security officially announced that Afghan evacuees who arrived in the country under Operation Allies Welcome will be able to renew their humanitarian parole status. The following is a quote from Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum: 

"The re-parole process alleviates part of the uncertainty for Afghan evacuees. But it extends a short-term solution that does not provide stability, further bolster our security or advance full integration. 

"Congress must provide Afghans allies a legal pathway to permanency so they can truly rebuild their lives in the United States. Our country owes them protection, stability and integration. The Afghan Adjustment Act would honor our promise. 

"American communities keep showing a strong desire to welcome Afghan evacuees. As newcomers in our communities, they deserve to live with certainty that the U.S. is their permanent home."
