April showers bring May meowers! Kitten season has arrived, and our Adoption Center is in full floof.
Every year around this time, shelters are flooded with newborns as unspayed and unneutered cats go into heat. Don’t get us wrong—we love kittens. But now, after placing dozens in foster homes until they were old enough to be spayed or neutered, we have the incredible task of finding homes for them all. That’s where you come in!
Now is the perfect time to adopt a new friend. Or two. Adopting kittens under 12 weeks old in pairs helps provide comfort and gives companionship that leads to friendlier, happier cats. Plus, it’s twice the cuteness and cuddles.
Help us place 450 kittens with loving families this summer—welcome two fur babies into your home this spring.

The Oprah Effect
Fifteen years ago, one hour of television gave new life to shelter pets.
We’re celebrating the anniversary of Oprah’s 2008 television special exposing the horrors of puppy mills, which started a chain of events that changed the way America thought about animal welfare, and continues to save countless lives of homeless pets today.
Weeks after it aired, she took the "Oprah Winfrey Show" on a tour of our Adoption Center. Oprah was delighted, saying, “I’ve never seen anything like this. So the animals aren’t caged at all. They have their own little rooms!”
See more about that pivotal episode and how Oprah met her beloved PAWS pets, Sadie, Lauren, and Sunny on our blog now!

Health Alert: Protect Against Parasites
With warmer weather comes an increased risk of disease. Parasite prevention is vital to making sure your pets have the best opportunity to avoid contractable illnesses. Fleas and ticks carry diseases that can affect your pet’s blood, kidneys, and joints. And heartworm in dogs is avoidable but potentially deadly.

JoJo Finds her Mojo
Picked up as a stray, Jojo had been through a lot and was struggling at the adoption center. She had to be housed in a separate area because she was so reactive to other dogs.
“She was pretty chaotic when she came back to meet us. But she also smushed up against us, licked our faces, and looked up with her big brown eyes, and we knew she was the dog for us,” said Julie Merrell.
