I spoke with The 19th News about Vote Mama Foundation’s latest report which revealed the gross underrepresentation of moms in federal office. The article also features Congressmamas (and Vote Mama alum) talking about what it's really like to be a mom in Congress.

Less than 7 percent of the 118th Congress are mothers with minor children.

In order to achieve proportional representation, this number needs to grow to about 18 percent. The data may be stark, but this report gives our movement a strong, clear goal to go after:

We need to elect 59 more moms to federal office ASAP.

Look, John, this may sound daunting, but the good news is that when we elect moms, it doesn’t take years to see the impact— with each mom we elect, we see immediate policy results.

Rep. Katie Porter, the first single mom with minor kids to ever serve in Congress, is a champion for truly family policies like paid leave, extending the child tax credit, and making childcare more affordable. She’s a leading voice for working families, and we are better off because she is serving in Congress.

Together, we know that we have the power to break huge barriers and elect leaders who are ready to fight for our kids and will NEVER back down to GOP extremism.

Knowing how much is on the line and how much we can achieve together, can I count on you to make a contribution of $19 today?
