Former President Trump’s failure of an immigration policy, Title 42, finally expired this month.

President Biden is working to keep the border secure and ensure a humane and orderly process. But immigration should not be left to executive action. Congress must act.

This week, Senator Durbin asked his colleagues to set aside partisan bickering and pass a bill to provide resources for frontline officials to process asylum applications and prevent illegal activity like drug trafficking that could put American communities in danger. This legislation is urgently needed, but it’s only a temporary fix. We need real, comprehensive immigration reform.

While Senator Durbin is working in the Senate, the MAGA majority in the House is introducing disastrous proposals that would make the failures of Title 42 permanent. In fact, implementing these backward immigration policies would make the border situation worse.
