** CBTU 2023 Conference: Building Jobs for Tomorrow brings together Industry Leaders, Elected Officials and Building Trades Delegates

The CBTU Canadian Executive Board met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the annual CBTU Parliamentary Reception in Ottawa last week. From left to right, General President Kevin D. A big thank you to everyone who attended our annual CBTU Conference, Building Jobs for Tomorrow in Gatineau, Quebec. For the first time, our Conference sold out, hitting record attendance of over 500 delegates and guests. I want to sincerely thank all of our sponsors ([link removed]) who helped to make the Conference possible including Gold Sponsors UA Canada and the GPMC; our guest speakers and elected officials who took time to come and address us, and the attendees for your participation, support and contributions.

We had a return of the CBTU Distinction Awards honouring those that have made significant contributions to the construction industry and legendary Canadian journalist Peter Mansbridge delivered a keynote to rave reviews. The attendance of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at our annual Parliamentary Reception, along with speeches from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh were just some of the highlights this year.

Congratulations to Brandi Jonathan, Diversity Liaison with CBTU’s In The Trades program, for winning the Community Benefits Champion Award from the Toronto Community Benefits Network last Saturday! This is much-deserved recognition for Brandi's hardworking and important contributions to make the construction industry more inclusive. CBTU’s In The Trades program ([link removed]) connects small and medium contractors to first-year Red Seal apprentices across the country, with incentives doubled when apprentices from equity-deserving groups are hired.

CBTU Executive Director Sean Strickland, NABTU President Sean McGarvey, and Canadian Ambassador to the US, Kirsten Hillman met in Washington DC earlier this week.
As we resume our post-conference work, earlier this week, I traveled to Washington, DC to meet with NABTU President, Sean McGarvey, Ambassador of Canada to the United States, Kirsten Hillman to discuss the special relationship between Canada and the US as it relates to Buy North American policies as well as our net-zero future economy. We also had the chance to sit down with James Rajotte, Alberta’s Senior Representative to the US.

Members of the CBTU team, Rita Rahmati and Kate Walsh, participated in parliamentary committee hearings this week to discuss Budget 2023, the Tradesperson Tools deduction, prevailing wage and the Investment Tax Credits, and what is needed to support workers in the transition to a no-carbon future.
As we head into the long weekend, if you’re working on much of the summer construction that’s ramping up to improve our outdoor infrastructure or have the opportunity to enjoy some time off, stay safe out there brothers and sisters.

** La conférence 2023 des SMCC
récompense les dirigeants de l'industrie

Le Conseil exécutif canadien des SMCC a rencontré le Premier ministre Justin Trudeau lors de la réception parlementaire annuelle des SMCC à Ottawa la semaine dernière. De gauche à droite, le président général Kevin D. Sexton (OPCMIA), Chris Feller (OPCMIA), Terry Snooks (UA Canada), Chris Paswisty (SMART), Craig Strudwick (BAC), le directeur exécutif Sean Strickland (SMCC), Kevin Bryenton (Ironworkers), le premier ministre Justin Trudeau, le président Robert Kucheran (IUPAT), Russ Shewchuk (IBEW), le président général James A. Williams Jr. (IUPAT), Paul Faulkner (Insulators), Ben McIntyre (IUEC), le sénateur Hassan Yussuff et le ministre du Travail Seamus O'Regan.
Un grand merci à tous ceux qui ont participé à notre conférence annuelle des SMCC, Bâtissons pour demain, à Gatineau, au Québec. Pour la première fois, notre conférence s'est déroulée à guichets fermés, avec une participation record de plus de 500 délégués et invités. Je tiens à remercier sincèrement tous nos commanditaires ([link removed]) qui ont contribué à rendre la conférence possible, y compris les commanditaires Or UA Canada et la GPMC ; nos conférenciers invités et les représentants élus qui ont pris le temps de venir s'adresser à nous, ainsi que les participants pour leur participation, leur soutien et leurs contributions.

Les prix de distinction des SMCC, qui récompensent les personnes ayant apporté une contribution significative à l'industrie de la construction, ont de nouveau été décernés et le légendaire journaliste canadien Peter Mansbridge a prononcé une allocution qui a suscité des commentaires élogieux. Félicitations à Brandi Jonathan, agent de liaison pour la diversité dans le cadre du programme Dans les Métiers des SMCC, qui a remporté samedi dernier le Community Benefits Champion Award décerné par le Toronto Community Benefits Network ! Il s'agit d'une reconnaissance bien méritée pour le travail acharné de Brandi et ses contributions importantes pour rendre l'industrie de la construction plus inclusive. Le programme Dans les Métiers ([link removed]) des SMCC met en relation des entrepreneurs de petite et moyenne taille avec des apprentis du Sceau rouge de première année dans tout le pays, avec des incitations doublées lorsque des apprentis issus de groupes méritant l'équité sont embauchés.

Sean Strickland, directeur exécutif des SMCC, Sean McGarvey, président du NABTU, et Kirsten Hillman, ambassadrice du Canada aux États-Unis, se sont rencontrés à Washington DC en début de semaine.
Alors que nous reprenons nos travaux post-conférence, je me suis rendu en début de semaine à Washington pour rencontrer Sean McGarvey, président de la NABTU, et Kirsten Hillman, ambassadrice du Canada aux États-Unis, afin de discuter de la relation spéciale entre le Canada et les États-Unis en ce qui concerne les politiques d'achat nord-américaines ainsi que notre future économie nette-zéro. Nous avons également eu la chance de rencontrer James Rajotte, représentant principal de l'Alberta aux États-Unis.

Des membres de l'équipe des SMCC, Rita Rahmati et Kate Walsh, ont participé à des audiences de commissions parlementaires cette semaine pour discuter du budget 2023, de la déduction pour les outils des gens de métier, du salaire dominant et des crédits d'impôt à l'investissement, et de ce qui est nécessaire pour soutenir les travailleurs dans la transition vers un avenir sans carbone.
