May Newsletter Dear Friend, When you sit down with your family and make your budget, right now you have to make tough decisions. Prices are high at the grocery store and it will cost more to keep your home cool this summer, for example. As costs rise, you have to cut back. However, President Biden and Congressional Democrats are not willing to make the same sacrifices you are. Our current national debt stands at $31.7 trillion, nearly $250,000 per taxpayer. Clearly, wasteful spending needs to be cut. On April 26th, Republicans in the House passed a plan that would responsibly pay our debts while sensibly cutting back like every American family has to do during difficult times. You wouldn’t pass along insurmountable levels of debt that your children would have to pay, and your government shouldn’t either. Dealing with this debt crisis is just one of big issues that Congress is dealing with this spring. There are other important issues, too. You can find out more about those later on in this newsletter. I hope you will take a few minutes to read it so you will know what we are working on in Washington, D.C. Thank you for letting me represent you. It is the honor of a lifetime, and I hope to be able to spend more time back home in Alabama’s Sixth District soon. Sincerely, Gary Palmer DC Visitors It was a pleasure to meet with students from the Pizitz Middle School Choir on the steps of the Cannon House Office Building. My staff and I even got to hear them sing “America the Beautiful.” You can watch their performance here. I got to meet with students from the Alabama School of Fine Arts that were in D.C. to compete in the National Science Bowl. Congratulations to these students on their achievement! I had the honor of being able to meet with members of the Vestavia Hills Police Department and thank them for their service. I also had the honor of visiting with the family of Officer Darryl Fortner, whose name was recently added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in D.C. I am very proud of Officer Fortner’s son, Austin, who is following in his father’s footsteps as a police officer. If you are traveling to the nation’s capital anytime soon, please contact my office to see how we can assist you. And feel free to stop by my office while in town! Congressional Art Competition Each year, schools across the district submit artwork for a chance to have it hang in the halls of the U.S. Capitol. Congratulations to Casey Bates from Hewitt Trussville High School for winning this year’s art competition! You can view Casey’s and the rest of the submitted artwork here. The Durham Report This week, the Durham Report was released. This report provides further evidence of what many already knew to be true, there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. The FBI and Department of Justice’s investigation into President Trump’s 2016 Presidential campaign colluding with Russia was politically motived and birthed from rumors and unsubstantiated claims. This evidence will further erode any remaining confidence the American people have in the FBI due their numerous agents allowing their political bias to dictate how they pursued this case. When our government institutions fail to apply the law justly, our country suffers because of it. We must ensure that this never happens again. President Biden has had two years to fix the problem, but he has only provided excuses. With the expiration of Title 42 and border crossings at record highs, my House Republican colleagues and I took action and proposed a solution. We passed the Secure the Border Act of 2023 that funds more border patrol agents, resuming construction on the border wall, and demands transparency from the Department of Homeland Security. The safety of our country is our top priority, and the President should be acting with the best interest of Americans in mind. Read my full statement here Alabama Today: Rep. New information has surfaced raising serious concerns that the Biden family has potentially been using Joe Biden’s political positions for their financial benefit by utilizing a network of companies as pass through entities for distributing payments to family members and business associates. Multiple Biden family members were involved and most of these transactions occurred during his President Biden’s time as Vice-President. At least $10 million from foreign nationals, specifically from China and Romania, has been traced to the Biden family and their associates. While the Democrats are arguing that this is nothing more than a political investigation, I can assure you that my efforts are solely devoted to letting the evidence lead my colleagues and me to the correct conclusion. Alabama Morning News with JT – May 5, 2023 The Daily Signal: EXCLUSIVE: Biden Bribery Allegation Could Mean Impeachment, Republican Policy Chair Says Responsibility over Recklessness On April 26th my House Republican colleagues and I passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act. We want to ensure that future generations are not burdened with crippling levels of national debt. Like every American, we must live within our means. Unfortunately, Democrat policies continue to increase our debt. Prior to the passage of this bill, President Biden was refusing to negotiate with Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans to responsibly raise the debt limit. We have put forth commonsense solutions to limit federal spending, save taxpayer dollars, and grow the economy. I am happy to report that as of this writing, negotiations are underway. My House Republican colleagues and I are committed to standing firmly together to start the process of getting our fiscal house in order.
