Dear Friend of MCV,
I left the State House late last night after an action-packed day.
Yesterday was Conservation Lobby Day and we filled the halls with support for some of the biggest bills of the session! We joined with environment and labor partners and Mainers from across the state to talk to legislators about proposals to responsibly develop offshore wind and recognize the inherent sovereign rights of the Wabanaki Nations. Thank you to those of you who joined us!
After Lobby Day wrapped-up, many of us stayed to testify at the public hearing on LD 1895, the bill to responsibly advance offshore wind in Maine. Thanks to the hundreds of you who signed our offshore wind petition, I was able to include it with my testimony and demonstrate strong grassroots support.
As I said in my testimony, LD 1895 must become law this session. As our state’s climate action plan so aptly states, Maine Won’t Wait – and Maine can’t wait – to address the rapidly worsening effects of climate change. This offshore wind bill is an essential step towards meeting Governor Mills’ proposal of 100% clean energy by 2040.
Other testimony highlighted how the bill would advance Maine's renewable energy goals, mitigate impacts on wildlife and fisheries, benefit vulnerable communities, and support good-paying jobs.
To hear more from the coalition supporting this transformative legislation, I hope you’ll join us today at noon for our Lunch & Learn: Jumpstarting the Maine Offshore Wind Industry with Bold Legislation [[link removed]]!
