Dear John
Budget Blowout
Despite warnings from the Reserve Bank that a multi-billion dollar
spend will fuel inflation, Grant Robertson has included it in Labour's
so-called Bread-and-Butter Budget anyway. While things like free
prescriptions and bus rides might appear to soften the blow of the
cost-of-living crisis, higher interest rates over a longer period, and
continued inflation, will counter any gains made.
New Zealand's budget is no different to your own household budget.
Labour's recipe for spending, then borrowing more to spend more, and
asking New Zealanders to pay for that long into the future through
tax, is a recipe for disaster.
What New Zealand needs is a plan to fix the economy and to address
the underlying drivers of inflation.
New Zealanders deserve tax relief. They should be able to decide
how to spend the money they have earned, not have it wasted on
government schemes which fail to deliver.
Come and join me for coffee, a muffin, and a chat about yesterday's
Budget announcement at a Post-Budget Business Breakfast next week.
I'll give an economic update and I'm interested to hear your
thoughts on the budget. The dates, times and venues of the breakfasts
