How to Find Security, Identity, Belonging, Purpose and Competence
|
|
Human beings are designed with five core needs – five desires that must be met for us to live lives of wholeness:
- Security - who can I trust?
- Identity - who am I?
- Belonging - who wants me?
- Purpose - why am I alive?
- Competence - what do I do well?
God intends for us to discover the fullest expression of these needs in Him. Sadly, we often seek to meet these needs through what Dr. Kathy Koch calls “counterfeit solutions” – unhealthy and ungodly choices that leave us feeling incomplete, broken and disappointed. |

Soul Mates or 'Sole' Mates?
The search for “the one” is often an idolatrous pursuit. As Christians, we must believe that our primary meaning comes from our relationship with God.
But also – just as importantly – we mustn’t enter into a marriage expecting more than another human can give. If my wife looks to me to be God for her – to love her like only God can love her – I’ll fail every time and on every count. Tragically, I see too many young people wanting to get married in order to find this God-acceptance and God-love. Infatuation can initially feel like it approaches this God-love, but eventually it fades, disillusionment sets in, and the once “fabulous” relationship soon becomes an excruciating prison. |

Gretel & Hansel (PG-13)
This version of one of the Brothers Grimm’s creepiest fairy tales focuses on Gretel, who’s 16 and caring for her little brother, Hansel. Homeless and hungry, they stumble into the cabin of a seemingly nice old lady ... with lots of scrumptious food. We know where this is going.
