A woman's right to make decisions about her own body is not just about health - it's about economics too.

Issues like access to health care, birth control, family planning, paid leave, child care - and abortion - are all critical for women's economic security. Already on average women earn 82 cents for every dollar a white man makes - and even less for black, Latinx, and indigenous women.

Reproductive rights are inherently tied to economics: Issues like access to health care, birth control, family planning, paid leave, child care - and abortion - are all critical for women's economic security, especially for women trying to hold down a job, or who don't have a support system.

Abortion is even more important for low-income women. According to the Guttmacher Institute - a leading organization for reproductive rights research and policy - in 2014, 75% of abortion patients were poor or low-income (having an income below $32,000). In fact, The New York Times reports that women who are denied an abortion are "three times as likely to end up below the federal poverty line two years later."

When we deny women the right to make health decisions, they're left with real economic costs - ones that take a toll on their economic security.

That's why it's appalling that over 200 ultraconservative Congressmembers have filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Not only are they trying to strip women of their right to medically safe abortions, they could set women back decades by banning safe and legal abortion.

We need to fight back now and make sure Congress protects women's reproductive freedom and economic security, and we're asking you to join us in this fight today:

Will you add your name now to demand Congress stop Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch from overturning Roe v. Wade?
