Last week, Governor DeSantis from Florida signed SB 1718 into law – a sweeping anti-immigrant bill that criminalizes immigrants and infringes on our day to day lives. 😤 I’ve called Florida my home for a longtime, and I know first hand the vital role that immigrants play in our communities. Yet, the policies outlined in this bill, like forcing hospitals to inquire about patients’ immigration status or making our out-of-state driver’s licenses invalid, aim to push our people into the shadows.

SB 1718 impacts everyone – you don’t have to be an immigrant or live in Florida to face its repercussions.This harmful law sets a dangerous precedent, putting immigrants across the country at risk of becoming the target of similar attacks in their home states. Small businesses, healthcare providers, and community members in Florida are all already becoming aware of the serious implications of SB 1718.

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. SB 1718 is a serious law that will have real, life-altering consequences on immigrant families in our communities.
