Dear John,
Yesterday, the Minnesota Senate voted to advance a bill that would put a new version of the so-called Equal Rights Amendment on your 2024 ballot. It now heads to the Minnesota House.
While equal rights are something we all support, the "new" ERA language–including constitutional protections for “gender identity and expression”–if passed by the House and adopted by Minnesotans in Fall 2024, would be used to trample constitutional rights such as free exercise of religion, conscience rights, free speech, and free association. States that pass the ERA are more likely to have state courts mandate that abortions and gender transitions are paid for by taxpayers - because not doing so would be "discrimination." Your representative will vote on this bill in the coming days, almost certainly before the regular Minnesota legislative session ends on May 22. So please take a moment to ask your legislator to vote NO on the abortion-expanding ERA.
