Dem AGs prioritize the AAPI community and fight for a more inclusive world

May is AAPI Heritage Month — and we have a lot to celebrate.
In the 20th Century, my grandmother immigrated from China to the United States, where she built several businesses, including a laundromat in Washington, D.C. She wore so many hats — from babysitting, to cooking for us, to helping us learn and grow.
I wouldn’t be here today without all the sacrifices she made for us. She wanted to give all of us a shot at a better life here in the United States — free to reach for the stars and become anything we put our minds to.
As we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, I think about the timeless values that she instilled in us, and how so many AAPI’s share them. Those values have powered so many invaluable contributions from AAPI’s across our country’s history — including in Democratic Attorneys General.
At DAGA alone, we’ve watched Kamala Harris as the first South Asian American Attorney General of California become the first Vice President of South Asian descent. I still remember the joy I felt when she was selected as Vice President — that someone who shared a similar background to me could rise to the highest halls of power.
Two of our powerhouse AGs, California’s Rob Bonta and Connecticut’s William Tong, continue to make not just our community proud, but their entire states. Both of them are history-makers too; AG Tong is the first-ever Chinese-American state AG, and AG Bonta is the first Filipino-American ever elected as California’s AG.
I'm exceptionally proud of my work as the Communications Director for DAGA. I know that Dem AGs are committed to promoting inclusivity, unity, and equal opportunities for every American. I'm honored to have the chance to fight alongside them to create a more fair and just world for all.
