Boating Safety Week

Every May, the Washington State Parks Recreational Boating Safety Program participates in National Safe Boating Week from May 19-26 to help remind everyone about the importance of water safety. The chilly waters of the Pacific Northwest can be unforgiving, and safety must be on the minds of everyone who plays in and around Washington?s waterways.

*The best way to keep yourself safe on the water is to wear your life jacket! *The recreational boating safety program also recommends boaters:

* *Stay educated about the best safety practices.*
* *Avoid alcohol and drugs.*
* *Bring communication devices.?*
* *Check and understand the weather.*
* *Beware of Cold Water Shock.?*
* *Use an Engine Cut-Off Switch.*

Cleanup
Washington Coast Cleanup Recap

Thank you to all the volunteers who participated in our annual Washington Coast Cleanup on April 22.?

Your help made a real difference. We are still compiling the final numbers of trash picked up from each location ? so far, we?re at 13,908 pounds of litter (and counting). Stay tuned for the final total!?

*We will have another beach cleanup on July 5.?*This is a great opportunity help protect the health and wellbeing of our state park beaches by picking up debris left from celebrations the night before. The Fourth of July holiday increases the traffic and visitation to our beaches, and it also increases the amount of trash left behind ? including firework debris. To keep our beaches safe for people, wildlife, marine life and vegetation, this cleanup is crucial to our ecosystems.??

Keep an eye out for registration information on the?Washington CoastSavers website [ [link removed] ].

"Leadbetter Point State Park In Ocean Park, Washington, Is So Little-Known, You Just Might Have It All To Yourself"

Leadbetter Point

Washington has some of the most beautiful places to visit (we may be a little biased).

People who love the great outdoors know there is no better feeling than immersing yourself in nature?? especially when the regular stresses of life got you down.

We know popular, iconic spots can attract many visitors. However, if you want a tranquil escape with fewer crowds, get to a park super early?or try to go on a weekday.?

You?ll find our more "popular" parks will have the crowds, but don't sleep on some of our lesser-known ones, like?Leadbetter Point State Park [ [link removed] ].

Only In Your State [ [link removed] ] tells you about Leadbetter Point and why you should make the trip?in their new article [ [link removed] ].
