Friend,
Following a global pandemic that turned our economy on its head, workers across the country are fighting for a seat at the table. Union election petitions rose by 53 percent between October 2021 and September 2022. Workers at companies like Starbucks and Amazon are unionizing in droves. Now employees at Trader Joe’s are joining the effort, with four stores and counting voting to unionize.

Maeg Yosef, a Trader Joe’s crew member for over 18 years, is leading the grocery chain’s nationwide unionization effort with Trader Joe’s United. She’s watched the culture of Trader Joe’s shift from a workplace that genuinely cared for its staff to a company with increasing turnover, declining benefits, and stagnant wages. These hardworking crew members, who were heralded as heroic first responders during the pandemic, are now fighting their employer for a decent standard of living.
Despite its progressive image, Trader Joe’s is doing everything it can to stifle Trader Joe’s United. They’re employing many of the same underhanded (and often illegal) tactics used by Amazon and Starbucks, including retaliating against pro-union employees, announcing new benefits and closing stores before union votes could take place, and employing a law firm with a long history of anti-union actions.

Trader Joe’s employees deserve to have their voices and their grievances heard. They deserve to unionize without interference. I’m proud to stand with Trader Joe’s United, and I hope you’ll take a moment to show your support. In solidarity, Ro |
