We know many of you are concerned about the news that the U.S. may be less than two weeks out from the projected deadline for hitting the debt ceiling.  Instead of solving the problem, House Republicans have been doubling down on their threat to send our country into default for the first time in U.S. history by refusing to pay our country’s existing debts, which economists say will trigger a global economic crisis and a potential recession.

It is irresponsible and reckless.  It’s also, for some, just politics. 

Not for Lizzie.  Lizzie has been working with her colleagues in the House Democratic caucus to protect Americans from the dangerous games playing out in Washington.  Putting people over politics.

Because this is politics.  This crisis is one that has been manufactured by Washington Republicans.  Congress has consistently passed legislation to increase the debt limit without conditions.  In fact, Congress has raised the debt ceiling 78 times in the past 63 years—including three times during the Trump Administration.  And roughly 25% of our national debt incurred over the past 230 years was taken on during the Trump Administration.

While Republicans play politics with our economy and Americans’ livelihoods, Lizzie and Democrats are coming up with real solutions to the real challenges facing our country.
