Hey everyone!
Last month, Steve Kerrigan was elected as the new chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party. He’s a big member of Team Healey and we wanted to welcome him as chair and give him the chance to write a short message to all of you!
-Team Healey
Hi, Steve here.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I wanted to introduce myself to everyone at Team Healey and explain a little about my vision for the future of our party.
I’m incredibly grateful to the party for electing me as the new chair. Under Gus Bickford’s leadership, Massachusetts Democrats have made big progress, and I can’t wait to build on that success. And I firmly believe that our party’s success has never been more important.
Around the country, we’ve seen attacks on personal freedom, on education, on those most vulnerable. We’ve seen our very democracy assaulted. So here’s something I want you to know.
In Massachusetts, from the very start, we’ve looked after our neighbors. We forged the foundation of a country built on the idea of liberty and the fundamental promise of equality.
American Democracy was born in Massachusetts. We will never let it die here.
I was born and raised here in Lancaster. My dad worked for over 30 years at Mass. Electric, as a union lineman. My mom was a school secretary. She greeted every kid in the morning and said goodbye to them every afternoon.
My parents taught me the value of community, of caring for others. They worked hard to make sure I had every opportunity in the world. Because we lived in Massachusetts, I did.
I love our state. Massachusetts is home to America’s first public school system, our first public library, our first ironworks. Massachusetts is the first state in the nation that allowed my husband, Jacob, and I to get married. We have always worked to serve as the greatest example of the promise of America. And you have my word that the Massachusetts Democratic Party will work every day to make sure it stays that way.
Our party has seen great success over the last several years, which is exactly why we will not be resting on our laurels. We will be organizing in every community across our state. We’ll be fighting to help candidates who believe in the value of truth, science, and our democracy. And we’ll continue to protect reproductive freedom, invest in education, and build a Massachusetts where everyone can succeed, no matter your background or zip code.
Together, we can build a stronger future. Let’s get to work.
-Steve
