Hi John,
Earlier today, we gathered top academics and experts to analyze possible paths ahead for U.S. policy after five years of “Maximum Pressure” towards Iran. The experts - which included top academics in the field and a former official under the Obama administration - shared their insights on the September uprising, stalled negotiations and the risks of a war between Israel and Iran.
Dr. Shirin Saeidi of the University of Arkansas detailed how the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising in Iran was not the first women’s led movement in Iran, and won’t be the last. Iranian women are empowered to demand their rights and secure more bodily autonomy from the authoritarian government in Iran.
Dr. Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi of Princeton University shared his perspective, including on how sanctions empowered the most militant elements in the Iranian government. He argued that they are also morally wrong as they’ve contributed to the misery of millions, which disenfranchises people and creates politics of despair.
Joel Rubin, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, warned that there is no military solution to Iran’s nuclear program and asserted that Biden had successfully reined in the Netanyahu government. Moreover, he warned that war with Iran would be horrific for human rights inside Iran, doing incalculable damage.
We are so grateful to be able to provide a platform to host these kinds of important, substantive discussions and hope that you will stay tuned to our emails and social media channels so you don’t miss any future panels.
