Hi there,
Thank you so much to everyone who turned out to help celebrate 15 years of GGWash [[link removed]] . Our thoughts are inspired, our hearts are full, and we already can't wait to gather together again.
There is so much happening this month, from meet-ups, to webinars, to chances to weigh-in on the future of our region, it *may* be hard to do it all.
Upcoming Events
Ward 1.5 Meetup [[link removed]]
Sunday, May 21, 3:00 - 5:00 pm
Civic engagement can be both rewarding and frustrating, but it should never be lonely. If you're looking to connect with other folks--especially in Wards 1 and 2--who think neighbors are nicer than neighborhood character and that cities should be for people, not for cars, this month's meet-up will be held at Grand Duchess. Sign up [[link removed]] to receive updates.
Come hang out with us at Denizens in Silver Spring [[link removed]]
CORRECTION: Thursday, May 25, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Can you believe it's been a year since our last meetup in Montgomery County? Let's fix that. Join us outside at Denizens Brewing Company in Silver Spring for happy hour and we can celebrate our new Planning Board appointments (or not, depending on how successful our endorsements are!). We'll be under the big tent, so this goes on rain or shine.
Webinar: What premium grocery stores teach us about the devaluation of Black communities [[link removed]]
Wednesday, May 31, 12:00 - 1:00 pm
New research finds that despite having the highest concentration of high-income majority-Black neighborhoods in the US, premium grocers in the Washington region are still more likely to locate in neighborhoods with few Black residents. Join us for a discussion with local experts about the report's findings, what it tells us about the persistence of structural racism in urban development, and the implications for Black-majority communities in the Washington region.
Speakers : Angie Rodgers , Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Economic Development, Office of the Prince George's County Executive and Andre M. Perry , Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution
Ride with Pride: Join GGWash and WABA at Pride 2023 [[link removed]]
Saturday, June 10, 2:30 - 7:30 pm
Queer people have made so many contributions to equitable urbanism in our region and they should be celebrated! March with GGWash and WABA in the Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 10 in this family friendly Pride celebration.
