Dear John,
Recently, I was able to speak at the Sikh Council on Religion and Education’s summit in Washington to honor the birth of Guru Nanak—and to recognize the contributions of Sikh Americans. I am fortunate to represent one of the largest Sikh populations in the United States. When I travel across our district and work with the Sikh community, I see how they embody Guru Nanak’s teachings of promoting peace, equality, and goodness.
Our community remembers the devastating Camp Fire in 2018, which destroyed 18,000 structures and claimed 85 lives. Out of that devastation - we saw the goodness of the Sikh community who provided food, shelter, and supplies to victims and firefighters. They worked closely with local governments and volunteer groups to ensure that every member of the community received proper care during unimaginable hardship. These actions exemplify the teachings of Guru Nanak and the compassion of the Sikh community.
It was an honor to celebrate Guru Nanak and the vibrate community he founded as Co-Chair of the American Sikh Caucus. it is truly an honor to represent the vast community of Sikh Americans
Sincerely,
JOHN GARAMENDI
