Once a largely overlooked area of local government, school boards have quickly become a focal point for American families.
During the COVID pandemic, parents and children found themselves powerless against school boards and administrators as they faced mass school closings and harsh pandemic-related mandates. But most alarming, as education shifted from in-person to nearly all virtual, parents became aware of:
* Disturbing trends in curriculum (including critical race theory and extreme sex education for children as young as kindergarteners).
* Bias among teachers and administrators, who seek to stifle or ban conservative beliefs, voices and actions in the classroom.
* Dangerous school policies (boys on girls’ sports teams and in girls’ bathrooms and locker-rooms).
As a result, concerned parents and citizens took action—through contact with school board members, through participation in school board meetings, by volunteering on school board campaigns and, in some cases, by running for school board themselves.
