North Carolina Republicans just used their supermajority in the state legislature to override the Democratic Governor's veto and pass a 12-week abortion ban.

This dangerous, extreme law goes against what the majority of Americans want. Most folks agree that the decision to carry a pregnancy should rest solely between a person and their doctor, yet time and again Republicans are going against the will of the people and pushing through harmful, invasive legislation like this.

We see this over and over again in Groundwork’s focus states. Our grantees are organizing every day in places with dangerous GOP supermajorities across the Deep South, Appalachia, and the Plains. They’re slowly, intentionally building the base of voters needed to challenge conservative control and ensure the people’s will is reflected in public policy.

Make no mistake, folks: Protecting our legal right to abortion requires breaking up Republican supermajorities like North Carolina's. And that requires year-round, local organizing.
