Two longtime LPRs recently won their deportation cases after receiving post-conviction relief and litigation assistance with the help of IDP.
IDP and partner organizations supported Mr. A-J- with an amicus brief at the Ninth Circuit after his unlawful drug offenses were vacated. A longtime green card holder, he will not be able to remain at home with his family and apply for U.S. citizenship.
At the Second Circuit, the government refused to reopen Mr. C-’s removal proceedings after his unlawful convictions had been vacated. IDP, the National Immigrant Litigation Alliance, and Wilmer Hale (led by Alan Shoenfeld, IDP Advisory Board member), supported Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem as they represented Mr. C-. After a Second Circuit appeal and amicus were filed, the government reopened and terminated Mr. C-’s removal proceedings, restoring his green card holder status. He can now remain in his home city of New York.
Continuing the fight!
