I want to tell you about a pretty significant budget decision we recently made.

I just signed off on an aggressive hiring program this summer to make sure we invest in the kind of sustained grassroots organizing that will ensure a big turnout next fall for Democrats up and down the ballot.

I think most campaigns make the mistake of hiring organizers all at the last minute. But I know that in order to build real enthusiasm from low-propensity voters we need to be starting a conversation with them today.

Sure, is it a risk to start spending money this early in the race, when we’ve raised just a fraction of our budget? Sure. But it’s a risk worth taking, in part because I know you will have my back.

This is how we build real power and move the needle for the long-term. And we have very clear examples. You can see it in the shift in Georgia with our victories there in 2020 and 2022. They started organizing there long before the official election season.

But you can also see it in the anti-gun violence movement. The first significant gun safety legislation does not pass — especially by a large bipartisan margin — without the work that we did year over year to build power in the states and in Washington that overwhelmed the gun lobby.

That’s why I signed off on this hiring plan starting now. This kind of deep organizing work to elect Democrats up and down the ballot and build support for our shared progressive values has to start now.

But I do need help right now to fund this plan.
