The lens at Port Isabel Lighthouse stands nearly five feet tall. Photo courtesy Artworks Florida, which made the reproduction lens.
For more than 170 years, the Port Isabel Lighthouse has stood watch over the southern coast of Texas. In late 2022, it received an upgrade?a new light.
Our Historic Sites Division coordinated the reproduction of an accurate, functioning lens and lamp to be fitted into the lantern room at the top of the lighthouse. This installation offers visitors to Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site a glimpse into the working past of the structure and the service it provided to the Gulf Coast.
