Sara’s campaign had been dismissed as a long shot more than once throughout the campaign, and the fossil fuel industry spent millions of dollars on her opponents to ensure that they can continue to extract deadly fossil fuels throughout the county.

But despite all odds, the people of Allegheny County saw through all of the opposition’s lies and elected her with a resounding margin.

Now, Sara’s victory sends a message to the fossil fuel giants and polluters everywhere that their days of poisoning our communities with impunity are numbered, and that the climate crisis matters to voters in Pennsylvania.

Sara’s race is just one of many key local races happening this year. As our team is gearing up for our next round of endorsements for this year and beyond, we will need to make some tough decisions on how much support we will be able to provide to the candidates we need to elect.
