John – Anti-democracy forces in the Republican Party are still working furiously to skew our elections. They want to manipulate the maps, restrict the freedom to vote, and stack courts with judges who they believe will enable their far-right agenda.

We still have a TON of work to do in order to defend our democracy. Right now we’re laser focused on upcoming opinions in two major Supreme Court cases.

→ In Allen v. Milligan, Alabama Republicans are asking the Court to dismantle key provisions of the Voting Rights Act that protect communities of color from racial gerrymandering. According to CNN, a ruling in favor of the GOP plaintiffs could “completely hollow out” the VRA before 2024.

→ In Moore v. Harper, North Carolina Republicans are advancing a fringe legal theory that could give GOP legislatures unchecked power over federal elections. MSNBC warns that an endorsement of this theory “could make it legal to steal the next presidential election.”

John, we can’t control how SCOTUS will rule in these cases, so we’re focusing on what we can control by continuing our work to elect leaders who will fight for fair maps, voting rights, and more all across the country. As A.G. Holder said recently, “We will continue to stay engaged – EVERYWHERE – to protect our democracy.”

Whether we’re able to be as effective as we need to be will hinge in large part on support from this grassroots team. So please, don’t wait: Pitch in anything you can to help us keep working to elect Democrats who will fight for a stronger democracy.
